#usbornecarlyxprince 🤩: IT’S EASIER TO MAKE A HIP-HOP SONG WITH PUNCHLINES THAN MAKING A COMMERCIAL BANGER - MEDIKAL
Ghanaian rapper Medikal has opened up about the creative process behind his music, revealing that making a hip-hop song packed with punchlines is far easier for him than crafting a commercial banger that resonates with a broader audience.
Speaking on Hitz FM on July 24, 2025, the “Shoulder” hitmaker explained that while rap allows for quick lyrical expression, commercial music demands a deeper level of intention and relatability.
“It is very easy to record a hip-hop song with punchlines, but in making a commercial song, you need to take your time because you’re not just making it for yourself… you’re making it for the entire world,” he said.
Medikal also tackled the perception that more bars equal more talent. He argued that many skilled rappers in Ghana haven’t had hit songs because rapping well doesn’t always translate to commercial success.
“People think that rapping a lot makes someone better. But the reality is that it’s not easy to make a hit song,” he added.
With “Shoulder” currently one of Ghana’s biggest tunes, Medikal’s comments shine a light on the balance artists must strike between lyrical depth and mass appeal.
